Questions and Answers

Q.  Where do we send/deliver the submittals?

A.  Boards should be sent to:

    Minnesota Sesquicentennial Office
    Attention: Jane Leonard
    James J. Hill House
    240 Summit Avenue
    St. Paul, MN   55102

They must be received by 4 p.m., Monday, April 16, 2007.  If materials are being delivered in person, they can be left with the attendant at   the information desk at the main entrance. The James J. Hill House is open Saturday from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm and Sunday from 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm.  Deliveries can be made during those times, as well as weekdays from 9:00 am - 4:00 am.

Q.  How many boards should each team submit?

A.  Grades 5-8 should submit one board.
Grades 9-12 should submit two boards.
Adult teams should submit two boards.

Q.  For the youth teams, grades 5-8,  what size are the maps supposed to be? Is each map 30" x 40" or 20" x 30"?

A.  The 5th - 8th graders should submit one, single-sided foam core board (or an equivalent type of board) for each team, no larger than 30"x 40".  Both maps should be mounted on that board.  The maps can be any size you choose, as long as they both fit on the single board.  You can use some of the space on the board to include other things that you might think of that help explain your idea, for example text or other illustrations, but you are not required to.  All submissions for this age group must include,at a minimum, two maps that are mounted on a board no larger than 30" x 40".

Q.  I printed out our narrative for the first time and noticed that even though the margins are set at 1-inch all around in the page setup area, it appears that the right margin is less than 1". Does it have to be 1-inch actual margins or 1-inch page set up margins?

A.  If you set your margins to be 1" and it prints out at something that is reasonably close to being an inch, we will accept your submission.  We do not want to receive submissions that are made too difficult to read because people are smashing down the margins, shrinking the typeface, etc.  Also we want all the participants to be competing on equal footing.

Q.  We are wondering whether the rule to not identify the team materials in any way means that the town name should not appear on the map or on the narrative, even if the name of the project is contains the town name.

A.  It's fine to put the name of your town on the maps and you can use the name of your town in the name of your project too.
